Presentation Awards

Awards for best early career researcher oral and poster presentations will be judged and awarded during the meeting.

Support

Support for attendance of the meeting is availible through the Mineral Physics Group’s Travel Bursary Scheme. Applications are welcomed from all researchers at a University or research institute in the UK, but preference will be given to post-graduate students in their penultimate or final year of study, who do not have access to funding for research related travel. In the case where applications outstrip funds available, applicants who are members of the Society will be preferred. Applications for bursaries can be sent at any time but must be received at least a month in advance of the start of the proposed trip and ideally much earlier. Applications will be judged primarily on the basis of academic merit, scientific impact and researcher development by members of the Mineral Physics Group committee.

Support for Carers

The Mineral Physics Group’s Travel Bursary Scheme has now been expanded make funds for carers an eligible expense. We recognise that caregiving responsibilities can present significant barriers to participation in research related activities. Applicants can request additional funds to cover reasonable costs for alternative care arrangements. Up to an additional £500 can be requested to support applicants with caregiving responsibilities. Reasonable costs may include but are not limited to:

Restrictions: Costs relating directly to the applicant (travel, accommodation, registration) are not eligible costs for the “funds for carers” and should be covered by the travel bursary.

Car

The M40 Motorway passes close to Oxford. Use junctions 8 (from the South East) or 9 (from the North). Use the A34 when approaching from the South West and to connect from the M4 Motorway. Oxford is a small, congested city with limited parking, so we generally advise visitors to use the Park and Ride. Visitor parking at the Department is limited to 3 spaces, by prior arrangement with Reception only.

Coach

The Oxford Tube and X90 provide frequent 24-hour direct services between Oxford and London. Both services start from London Victoria and stop in the same places in Oxford. The High Street stop is most convenient for the Department, and is approximately 10 minutes’ walk away. The Airline and National Express provide regular bus services between Heathrow, Gatwick and Birmingham Airports. Stansted Airport is served by National Express. Stagecoach X5/505 provides a convenient Oxford-Cambridge bus link.
